Recently, a large number of posts featuring AI-generated mini-games have appeared on Xiaohongshu and Douyin. Unlike before, many of these posts now include links to the games; by clicking on the links in the posts, users can open and play the games directly without having to download anything or be redirected to another page.

On Xiaohongshu, log in via the Creator Service Platform, click the “Widgets” tab, and you can upload the web-based mini-games you’ve created.

On August 18, Xiaohongshu’s official account “Tech Potato” announced the full rollout of the “Widgets” feature, which had been in limited testing since July. Following the full rollout, any real-name verified account with more than 1,000 followers that has been registered for at least six months can upload its own web page to “Widgets.”
The day before the new feature went live, Xiaohongshu also launched the Vibecoding Competition, offering 300,000 in prize money and 100 million in dedicated traffic support.

Douyin’s AI feature, called “Interactive Space,” entered closed beta in mid-July and is still in the beta testing phase. Creators can find the “Interactive Space” entry point on Douyin’s virtual creation platform, and the Douyin app has also quietly launched the “Interactive Space Plaza.”

Xiaohongshu’s “Widgets” and “Interactive Space” aren’t just for mini-games; widgets, mini-games, and mini-programs all fall within the scope of these two new platforms.
However, mini-games still account for the lion's share of content across both features. On Douyin's Interactive Space, mini-games with various themes—such as the Link Emulator, Flying JJUN, and "Eerie Flavor"—dominate the homepage.

And after the "Mini-Games" feature was launched on Xiaohongshu, a flood of "mining mini-games" and "barbecue simulators" appeared; within a single day, these mini-games had already attracted 2,000 players.

The closed beta testing of two new features on Xiaohongshu and Douyin coincided with the July 16 release of the Kimi K3 model. Following the launch of the new model, its parent company, Moon’s Dark Side, launched the K399 web game platform, further lowering the barrier to entry for creating mini-games with just a single sentence.By 2026, AI-powered game creation had rapidly become widespread, allowing users to create playable web-based mini-games with no coding required, and interactive content had become a key new growth area for major content platforms.
By creating mini-games with Kimi K3 and uploading them to Xiaohongshu and Douyin via the “Mini-Tools” and “Interactive Space” features, respectively, the games can attract a group of players. A power user who has created multiple AI-powered mini-games and built a following on Xiaohongshu and Douyin as a result told me that the “AI mini-game” scene has become incredibly competitive.
However, both platforms’ AI interaction features have clear usage restrictions: Xiaohongshu’s mini-programs run entirely offline and cannot connect to the internet, save data, or undergo online iterations; furthermore, neither platform has yet opened up mature commercial monetization channels.
Whether on Douyin or Xiaohongshu, AI interactive features are currently in the beta testing phase. In the Douyin Interactive Space creator discussion group, someone asked if there were ways to monetize through ads. The official response was: “Since Interactive Space does not require creators to have specific qualifications, monetization is not currently supported. We may consider commercialization models such as IAA in the future.”
