The Nintendo eShop in the U.S. today announced the new "Scott Pilgrim EX" game, which will be released on all platforms on March 3. The Switch version is priced at $28.99 (approximately 200 RMB) and will feature Simplified Chinese support at launch.

This is the second officially licensed game following Ubisoft’s 2010 release of *Scott Pilgrim vs. The World™: The Game*. It continues the pixel art and classic arcade fighting style. Developer Tribute Games has just completed the critically acclaimed *Marvel’s Invasion*, so they are well-versed in this type of side-scrolling beat ’em up. With the original author, Bryan Lee O’Malley, personally crafting the storyline, featuring a brand-new story and more modern mechanics. Twenty years later, the underdog Scott is still taking on the world!

In the previous installment, the story largely followed the plot of the comic book and movie, with Scott defeating her seven evil exes in order to be with Ramona. In this EX installment, the setting shifts to Toronto in the year 20XX, where the city has been overrun by the Extreme Vegans, the Mechanical Biker Gang, and the Hell’s Devils. Members of Scott’s band, Sex Bobomb, have mysteriously vanished, prompting him and Ramona to embark on an adventure through a fractured timeline.
There are a total of seven playable characters. Those currently featured in the demo include Scott, Ramona, Lucas, and Roxy, and Knife from the previous game may also make a return. Surprisingly, the storyline appears to be connected to the 2023 animated series *Scott of the Wild: Full Throttle*. In the trailer, Ramona demonstrates a new ability she acquired after meeting her future self (spoiler alert).
Unlike its predecessor, the studio says it will build upon the original’s legacy while optimizing and upgrading the game to create a Scott adventure for a new era. Visually, it features intricate pixel art; while the backgrounds are simpler, combat is smoother. The combat system incorporates more modern elements, environmental interactions, and in-depth customizable strategies, and the dialogue retains much of the original’s signature American humor.
Each character will have a unique fighting style, combos, and super moves.Just like in traditional side-scrolling games, you can pick up environmental weapons, freely combine them into flashy combos, experiment with all sorts of wacky weapons, and unleash over-the-top special moves. You can also use special badges to upgrade character stats, unlock exclusive combat bonuses, and build your own custom loadout. As you explore interconnected city levels, you’ll run into familiar faces, make new friends, complete missions, and unlock hidden areas. The game’s co-op mode continues to support 1–4 players in both local and online multiplayer. The band Anamanaguchi will compose the game’s soundtrack, blending explosive 8-bit energy with super-melodic rock to immerse players even further in this nostalgic journey.

If you're a fan of the *Scott Pilgrim* series or simply enjoy classic side-scrolling pixel-art beat 'em ups, you won't want to miss *Scott Pilgrim EX*. The biggest drawback of the previous game was the lack of an official Chinese localization. The series has always been known for its integration of pop culture and its exploration of interpersonal relationships, and we're confident that having the original creator at the helm will bring us even more surprises.
