RuStore Downloads Surpass 2 Billion; New Opportunities for Chinese Developers

In January 2026, RuStore, Russia’s official app store, announced that since its launch, total downloads of apps and games on the platform had surpassed 2 billion, with user engagement increasing nearly 30-fold year-over-year. This milestone not only demonstrates the platform’s rapid growth in the Russian market but also offers unprecedented opportunities for Chinese developers to enter the Russian and international markets.

Developed by VK, RuStore supports multiple operating systems, including Android, HarmonyOS, and Aurora, providing developers with a secure and reliable distribution channel. The platform brings together developer resources from more than 70 countries worldwide and currently features over 100,000 apps and games.

User Engagement and Payment Trends in Russia

Currently, the RuStore ecosystem continues to grow.According to Mediascope data, as of December 2025, RuStore’s monthly active users have reached approximately 68 million, making it the second-largest app store in the Russian mobile app market, trailing only Google Play. Compared to October of last year, the app store’s user base has grown by 1.5 times. At the same time, RuStore’s unique user count is also increasing—since the beginning of the year, this metric has grown by 25%.

Dmitry Pankrushev, head of RuStore, noted: “This growth is directly attributable to the fact that our app catalog has doubled in size compared to last year. Currently, RuStore offers a wide range of popular Russian and international apps and games. The gaming sector stands out in particular: games account for 40% of the total catalog and contribute more than 80% of payment transaction volume.”

This year, RuStore has expanded into the South Korean, Indian, and Japanese markets.

Chinese Developers and Opportunities in the Asian Market

Building on RuStore’s continuously expanding ecosystem, the growth of Chinese developers has been particularly remarkable. By the end of 2025, the number of Chinese developers had increased by approximately 2.5 times compared to the previous year, revenue had more than tripled, and the number of apps had risen by about 40%.

Among Chinese apps targeting the Russian market, shooting games have become the highest-grossing category, with an average order value exceeding 900 rubles, followed by adventure games (approximately 750 rubles) and role-playing games (700 rubles). These apps are actively expanding their user base in Russia through advertising campaigns, app store recommendations, and product localization.

The various events and themed promotions organized by the platform have significantly boosted user spending and have become a key driver of revenue growth for both developers and the platform.

Outlook and Opportunities for Collaboration

Through 2026, RuStore will continue to focus on building its content ecosystem and optimizing the user experience. The platform will prioritize the development of promotional and advertising tools, while continuously adding new features and presentation formats.
